Howdy y’all! I’m Moses, an American cowboy who just loves to travel.
I started out my life o’ wanderin’ by meetin’ a man named Greg in Lubbock, Texas during my spring break. We ended up goin’ fishin’, and after that first time, we got together ’bout once every month or so to go fishin’ at one o’ his friend’s ponds.
I was in Lubbock for about 6 months, livin’ with my family and workin’ at the local gas station (my dad got me the job). Greg invited me to come along on another trip. He said that he had to go down south to Dallas for some big ol’ business deal. It ended up not bein’ a business deal at all, but just a vacation with his ex-girlfriend.
I knew I needed some new experiences after stayin’ in Lubbock so long. So I decided to join Greg on this trip down south! Travelin’s been in my blood ever since the day I got off the plane at DFW.
Greg and his ex-girlfriend, Aimee, were so excited about their trip that they couldn’t stop talkin’ ’bout it! They went on and on ’bout their cruise from Houston to Cozumel, down through the Caribbean. They told me all about their hotel room with a balcony view of the Gulf of Mexico! I was lookin’ at cruises online, dreamin’ ’bout what it would be like to go on one o’ those big ships…
“So, what cruise are you takin’?” I asked Greg as we were sittin’ around the their living room.
“We’re goin’ on this one to Cozumel and the Cayman Islands,”. Apparently oblivious to my question, “It leaves from Port Aransas.”
“Port Aransas?” I asked, cocking an eyebrow.
Greg looked back at me with a blank stare for a few seconds before realizing what I was askin’. “Oh… you wouldn’t like it there,” he said dismissively, “it’s just filled with old retired folk and rednecks.”
Well, that was it. I knew this trip would be just what I needed to get me out into the world. Travelin’ makes a fella hungry for life experiences, y’all!
While this Howdy Y’all story is just a humor laden tale, it reflects what many people know: Sometimes those last minute vacation are the best.
Are you in the mood for a vacation but you don’t want to spend weeks planning every detail of your trip? Traveling last minute might be just what you are looking for. With so many people booking their trips online, there are often empty seats on flights traveling long distances. Travelers willing to depart at short notice can find very cheap fares.
It’s true that last minute trips often require you to go on a moment’s notice. Many times you can leave in just a few hours if your plans change. Travel time varies depending on where you’re going. If your destination is a popular vacation spot or large city, it may take more time to get there. Traveling by car is the easiest option for last minute trips because you can depart as soon as you are ready. Traveling by air usually takes longer. So if your plans are changeable, it might be better to drive instead of booking a flight at the last minute.
Don’t assume that because you’re booking at the last minute that you’ll get an undesirable seat. Travelers are often surprised to find out they have their pick of seats on a flight when they book late. The reason for this is simply supply and demand. With most travelers planning their trips in advance, there are more seats available on flights because airlines want to maximize their capacity.
Taking off at the last minute doesn’t have to cost a fortune either, according to travel experts.
With jet-black midnight fast approaching and orange skies descending, many travelers find themselves stuck in their airport departure lounge for hours on end.
But there is nothing to fear when you pack your suitcase with a good book and some music to take your mind off the fact that you spent hours schlepping around the duty free.
“That’s because last-minute flights can often be way cheaper than what they would have been if you had booked them earlier,” says Peter Bricknell, spokesman for travel company Jetabroad.
“With so many airlines cutting back on their services and grounding planes as the industry struggles to stay afloat, this is great news for budget-conscious travelers.”
Flights are snapped up by people who have flexibility in their destination and destination time, having decided that it’s better to have a last minute holiday rather than none at all.
If you are willing to put up with the inconvenience, you can look forward to a cowboy saying Howdy y’all.
